It hasn’t been that long since I tried vision boards, or eating grapes under a table to manifest my year, and honestly, trust me on this… it works. Maybe not in a movie-magic way, but definitely enough to make you believe in it.
Let’s clear one thing up first: vision boards are not magical problem-solvers. They won’t fix your life overnight or make everything fall into place the second January starts. A vision board is basically a visual plan for your year. It helps you get clear on what you want and where you’re headed, and that clarity alone is powerful.
A lot of people think making a vision board means pasting pretty pictures together and waiting for the universe to do the rest. Nope. That’s not how it works. Picturing your dream life is just step one. The real work is staying consistent, motivated, and strong enough to show up as the version of yourself you imagined while making that board. I personally feel like it’s a great replacement for people who keep resolutions and end up not getting anything done by the end of the year, because visualizing goes a long way.
So yes, vision boards help, but only if you put in the work too.
Now, how to make a vision board that actually works:
1. Think before you design
Before opening Canva and going crazy with aesthetics, take a minute to think about what you really want this year. Not what sounds impressive, but what feels right. More peace? Better grades? Confidence? Health? Stability? Write it down or just think it through.
2. Use Canva
Canva is honestly the best tool for this. You can go for a simple collage or a corkboard style if you’re into that scrapbook vibe. There are tons of free templates, or you can make it freestyle. Remember, there is no written set of rules for this. You’re allowed to let your creativity flow.
3. Pick images that mean something to you
Don’t just add aesthetic photos for the sake of it. Choose images that actually represent your goals, habits you want to build, places you want to go, and routines you want to stick to. If an image doesn’t motivate you or spark excitement, it probably doesn’t belong there. Work your board on Pinterest, see how it looks on there, and then work on the rest on Canva.
4. Add words, not pressure
Quotes, affirmations, or even single words can make a huge difference. Keep them realistic and encouraging. Your vision board shouldn’t make you feel stressed or behind. It should feel like a reminder of what you’re working toward. Keep in mind, you’re planning for the whole year, so keep it vague and achievable.
5. Put it somewhere you’ll see it
A vision board only works if you look at it. Make it your phone wallpaper, laptop background, or print it out and stick it near your desk. The more you see it, the more it stays in your mind, the more you grow towards being a better version of yourself you manifested.
6. Do the work
This is the most important step. Check in with your vision board often and ask yourself, “What can I do today to get a little closer to this?” Small steps still count.
At the end of the day, a vision board isn’t a promise from the universe. Its a promise you make to yourself. And sometimes, that’s more than enough.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year :)
