The Art of Never Giving Up

For The Exclusive

Nehal Naik,

Recently, I've been reminded at how hard it is to persevere when things are shattering. Having recently suffered a setback broke my confidence—it caused me to doubt all the things I thought that I could do. I felt stuck, drained, and even wanted to just give up on it all. But in that lowest point, I began to understand something deeper: the science of not giving up isn't always about being strong—it's about showing up, even when you don't. It's about fighting through the silent times when nobody witnesses your struggle, and continuing to try again. It's knowing that failure doesn't make you, it refines you. Every disappointment contains a lesson, every failure builds something intangible but essential: resilience. The thing is, growth isn't necessarily loud or spectacular. Sometimes it's just rolling out of bed and taking one more small step forward. And while the pain of not getting it right is real, so is the resilience born from not letting it be the end of your book. I'm still figuring it out, but this much I know now—quitting won't get me where I need to go. But doing it again might.
