Where did all the time go?

By Tasfia Tafanum

I don't think you'll even realise how fast time flies when you don't notice it. It's like even the most mundane things hold value when you miss them. We overlook the most simple and the most ordinary parts of life - the daily hours that make us who we are. But on this note, do we truly know who we are in the end?

I don't think you have an answer to that, nor does anybody. But the truth is above all - we'll never truly understand ourselves until the end.

Why did we have to part?

Why did I say that?

What went wrong?

Why am I here?

Where did all the time go?

Someday when you're holding the door for your mother to get out of the car on the way to the hospital, someday when tiny little fingers hold onto you near the traffic signal, someday when you're back home to candlelit dinner, someday when you see your published book at a random bookstore, someday when you pass by a stranger and have the courage to say “you look beautiful”, someday when you go to sleep with a stomach half full and a heart completely whole with love- someday when you'll have the courage to be, when you'll pick up your pieces with empathy and join them back one by one, when you'll not hinder to look around, when you'll be brave to think you're wrong but even then still love yourself. Maybe then you'll know:

Why did you have to part

Why did you say that

Why did it go wrong

Why were you there

And where did all the time go

To tell you a secret. Do what you love for a very long time and one day, others will too. I think you should continue writing or scribbling – just the way you like. You should start editing again and going on walks like before – just the way you used to. You should start styling your own hair or braiding it – so it’s never too late. You should start holding your mom’s hands often or massage your dad’s leg because he drives only to get back home to you – just in case you never get a chance to. You should continue your unfinished poem or the book that you loved – just the way you left it to be. You should look in the mirror but this time make sure you fall in love.

You should repeat things over and over till they make you feel like they are your own.

Just the way it must be.

Just the way it should be.
